Introduction to RT-BJJ
Welcome to RT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a place where we believe in transforming lives through the discipline, resilience, and skill-building of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our academy was born out of a leap of faith during one of the most challenging times in recent history—the COVID-19 pandemic. When the lockdown hit, Renato Tarullo, a seasoned personal trainer, and his partner Claire, a beauty therapy business owner, suddenly found themselves at a crossroads as their livelihoods came to a standstill. Instead of standing still, they saw this as an opportunity to take a massive risk. Fuelled by a shared passion for fitness, discipline, and personal growth, they set out to create RT-BJJ, a place where people of all ages could learn, grow, and find resilience through martial arts.
RT-BJJ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School is rooted in the belief that martial arts can be a pathway to developing not only physical skills but also mental strength and confidence that extends beyond the dojo. With a mission to build a community focused on continuous improvement, we strive to provide every student with the tools they need to reach their full potential—whether it’s mastering self-defence, building fitness, or finding inner resilience. We understand that each person comes with different goals and challenges, and our commitment is to support them on that journey.
Our academy is open to all skill levels and ages, with classes structured to provide a solid foundation in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while challenging each student to push beyond their limits. For our youngest students, we offer a kids’ program that introduces them to the basics of BJJ, focusing on self-defense, discipline, and respect. Starting from age 4, children learn essential skills that help them become more confident, focused, and physically active. As they progress, they also gain a sense of accomplishment from mastering techniques and earning stripes on their belts, building lifelong lessons in resilience and perseverance.
Our adult classes cater to a wide range of students, from those stepping onto the mats for the first time to experienced practitioners aiming to refine their skills. Each class incorporates a blend of conditioning exercises, technical instruction, and partner practice, ensuring that students receive a balanced and comprehensive training experience. In addition to our traditional Gi classes, we offer No-Gi training, which removes the traditional uniform and emphasizes a more fluid, adaptable style of grappling. No-Gi training is highly beneficial for enhancing control, grip, and body awareness, as it requires students to rely on their physical connection with their opponent rather than clothing-based grips.
The heart of RT-BJJ is the dedication and expertise of Renato Tarullo, the founder and head instructor. Renato has an extensive background in martial arts and fitness, beginning his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey under renowned instructors Rodrigo Cabral and Eduardo Azevedo. With roots in Capoeira and personal training, he brings a unique blend of knowledge and passion to his teaching approach, focusing on technical precision and personal development. His commitment to BJJ has inspired a learning environment that values each student’s progress and respects individual goals and challenges.
Together with Renato, our three boys, and my own background as a black belt in karate, we’re thrilled to welcome you to our BJJ family! For us, martial arts are more than just sports—they’re a way of life that brings out the best in kids and adults alike. Watching our boys grow through BJJ has shown us how much it can build confidence, respect, and resilience. Renato’s passion for teaching kids shines in every class, combining skill-building with fun.
